Museum Night at Gerðarsafn

Museum Night is held on Friday 5 February from 7 p.m. until midnight. At Gerðarsafn there will be a diverse program for all ages. 


Artist's talk with Katrín Elvarsdóttir and Ingvar Högni Ragnarsson
7 p.m. 

Artists Katrín Elvarsdóttir and Ingvar Högni Ragnarsson will discuss their photography exhibition at Gerðarsafn. Katrín Elvarsdóttir exhibits the series Double Happiness created in China in 2010-2014. The series depicts a city on the edge of everyday and fiction with portraits of elderly people, nature in a man-made environment, living quarters and found sculptures. Ingvar Högni exhibits his series Deltas of Bucharest made in Romania in 2015. In the series, he sheds a light on the quiet moments of people's lives and their everyday surroundings while revealing the country's diverse history and complex social issues.

Guided tour in the collection storage
8 p.m. / 9 p.m.
Guests are invited on a guided tour through Gerðarsafn's collection storage. The guided tour is a rare opportunity to look behind the scenes and see artworks from the museum's collection. The group will also visit the museum‘s new collection space and get insight into the inner workings of a museum, including the preservation of artworks, registration and research. Ten people can participate in each tour and registration takes place at the museum. 

CUT CUT - Open collage workshop 
7 p.m. - 11 p.m.

Artist Linn Björklund leads an open workshop in mosaic and collage in the spirit of artist Gerður Helgadóttir (1928-1975). We will experiment with colors and geometric forms and create a collage mural as a group. The workshop is open for everyone between 7-11 p.m. at Studio Gerður at Gerðarsafn Kópavogur Art Museum.

Gourmet hour at Garðskálinn
7 p.m. - 12 p.m.
Garðskálinn bistro will host a gourmet hour. On the menu are rare Icelandic cheeses and beer from local microbreweries among other light dishes and sweets. Ægir Friðriksson, the bistro's head chef, will talk with guests about pairing of food and drink. Garðskálinn has recently opened on the lower floor on Gerðarsafn. Couple Ægir Friðriksson and Íris Ágústsdóttir run the bistro. Íris is a designer and has made her mark on the space and Ægir is an award winning chef who has been head chef at Hotel Natura Reykjavik and Floran Bistro.
