The bistro Garðskálinn opened recently on the museum's lower floor. Garðskálinn offers soups, sandwiches, freshly baked bread, cakes and coffee. Every Thursday and Friday between 3 and 5 p.m. is happy hour at Garðskálinn with discounts of drinks.

The emphasise at Garðskálinn is creating simple and good food from the freshest ingredients. The cakes and sour dough bread are baked in house and the food is all made from scratch.

Garðskálinn is run by couple Ægir Friðriksson and Íris Ágústsdóttir. Íris is an interior designer that has revitalized the look of the bistro. Ægir is a award winning chef that has worked as head chef at Café Flóra, Hotel Reykjavik Natura and Satt restaurant.

Garðskálinn is open Tuesdays to Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Note that Garðskálinn is still open when the museum is closed due to installations of new exhibitions.
