Barbara Árnason

1911 - 1975

Barbara Moray Williams was born and raised in England and was a distinguished student at the Royal College of Art. She moved to Iceland in 1937 when she married Magnús Á. Árnason, sculptor and painter. Barbara's works were very varied as she was ceaselessly looking for new materials and methods for her art. Barbara was a pioneer in engravings and a brilliant book illustrator. She painted watercolors of Icelandic landscape and children and worked with textile and wool. In the years before her death she worked on water color engravings, which were well received.
