Poster collection from the gallery of Sævar Karl

A gift to the museum in 2007

In 1989 Sævar Karl Ólason founded the Gallery of Sævar Karl located inside his fashion store at Bankastræti in Reykjavík. Every artist that exhibited in the gallery made a poster to advertise their exhibition, this poster was also a payment for the gallery. In 2007 Sævar Karl Ólason and Erla Þórarinsdóttir gave Gerðarsafn their collection of posters. This collection consists of 54 posters that shows a variety of exhibitions held since the gallery opened. It portrays the history of the Gallery and therefore plays an important part as a wholesome collection.
